Burbank Water and Power’s (BWP) Smart Grid Program comprehensively and securely integrates multiple intelligent Smart
Grid infrastructure systems and control processes, modernizing
BWP’s electrical energy delivery systems
Primary components include communication systems, advanced metering infrastructure, smart grid control systems, distribution
automation, and demand management and control. Funding for the program included a $20 million grant received by BWP as part
of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and a $1 million grant from the California Energy Commission..
KDG provided project controls support, including creating the master program schedule utilizing Microsoft Project. The firm also provided assistance to BWP in interfacing with state and federal agencies, including the US Department of Energy.
